It's alive!

I finally got around to hooking up that Toshiba TV I bought at the thrift store the other day.  It does work and I didn't even need to put new batteries in the remote.

The rear of the TV has a sticker that says it was made in Thailand in 2004.  I was disappointed that a TV that recent was so lacking in A/V hookups.  The rear only has an antenna in and the front has inputs for video and mono audio.

I can get around that without a problem.  Now that it works, what do I do with it?

Blast from the past!  I was only able to dig out a binder full of old copied PSX games.  I think have a few original Playstation games in a box in the basement and I know I have a bunch more games back in Cranbrook.

The copied discs don't really stand the test of time as my of Destruction Derby 2 is all kinds of glitched out.  The intro video seriously stutters, the menu audio is choppy, and the in game video is just weird looking neon pixels.  I tried a copied disc of Tobal No.1 which didn't even work, but I did play the original Medal of Honor with no problems.

I'd like to play some Tekken 3 and Ridge Racer Type 4, but I'm pretty sure those are in Cranbrook.  Now I wish I had picked up a used copy of Wipeout XL when Playstation games were cheap.  It's considered vintage now, so some places charge more than they should.   No worries, I'm sure they will show up one day at the thrift store.

Friday night movie night

If you are looking for something awesome/stupid/ridiculous to watch then look no further than Kung Fury!  Kung Fury is a short film that just released yesterday and I've been waiting a while to see it.   I backed the Kickstarter for it WAY back when.  Eventually I'll get a blu-ray of the film, but for now the 1080p digital download will do.  Don't worry, it's all on YouTube for free, but make sure to watch it in full screen HD!  Check it out to see what $630,000 can do.

The Syfy channel can make a dozen movies for that price.

Popular demand too

I was getting a few groceries at Sobey's today and was in the cereal aisle.  I was going to get some Honey Nut Cheerios, but then saw they had a free t-shirt in Cinnamon Toast Crunch from General Mills!

Unfortunately, the free shirt is only in kids sizes, but since I have two nephews I still have someone to give the shirts to.  I bought my the cereal and had to text my sister to see what sizes Logan and Avery are wearing now.  I went to check out the website, but looks like I've been denied a free shirt yet again.

I wanted to get the Honey Nut Cheerios Bee "Who Needs Pants" shirt.  Looks like I'm getting slow in my old age.  In order to avoid this again I'm putting out a call that you guys let me know ASAP if you ever see any kind of free shirt/swag offer.  I don't want to miss out on free crap I don't even really need again!  Thanks.

Wanna see something gross?

Okay, here is that epic post I promised...

...ORANGE JUICE.

It's not just any OJ, but orange juice that has a best before date of Nov 29, 2014.  If my math is right that is almost seven months past due.

The pictures don't really convey how gross it looks.  The colour is a lot darker than it should be plus it has that stuff settled on the bottom which is weird because it's pulp free orange juice.

I kept meaning to pour it out and recycle the jug, but I'd always forget because it keeps getting pushed to the back of the fridge.  Now I'm too scared to pour it out, plus I almost feel like I should save it for something "special".

Junk I bought Vol. 147

I've had the past couple days off, so I've had lots of time to do nothing.  You think I would try and do a blog post, but nope.  Instead I just went out and bought some junk and now you get to look at a bunch of pictures of it all.

The first stop this morning was the thrift store!

I got a Derrick Storm book by Richard Castle, some old G.I. Joe party hats with three different price tags and a brand new sealed 8mm camcorder tape.  That tape is actually the second sealed camcorder tape I've bought lately.  Cody has his old camcorder here, so we can use it to shoot new stuff.  I actually like the look of the old camcorder stuff and besides nobody wants to see me in HD.

I also got this sweet 16" Toshiba TV which even came with the remote.  I didn't bother to try hooking it up yet, but I will.  They usually test them anyway to make sure they work.  When you find a TV on the side of the road, that's when you are taking a chance.

I got some groceries and for some reason was craving Hawkins Cheezies.  I haven't had some of these in forever, so it was time!

Then I went to Phoenix Comics and got some movies and a Smashing Pumpkins single from Gish.

The High School Flashback is actually a metal tin that looks like a locker and inside are three DVD, that have some cool sounding special features.  Sixteen Candles has a 10 part documentary, Breakfast Club has a 12 part documentary, The Origins of the Brat Pack, and commentary while Weird Science has 4 part retrospective, theatrical trailer and the pilot for the TV series.  Odd that Weird Science is the only with a trailer, the TV series pilot is a nice touch.

Remember how I was just talking about Star Wars Micro Machines the other day?  Well, I bought a bag of random Star Wars stuff with some Micros in it.

The bag had these vehicles in it.  All cool ones, but I don't remember the name of that stubby Tie ship.

The stands for the ships were included, but there are different types.  The Micro Machine series used the smaller all clear stands while the Star Wars branded stands are from a different line.  They also had two separate bags of slight larger die cast vehicles, one with a Cloud Car and Tie Interceptor and another with Slave II.  I'm guessing the larger stands are for those vehicles.  If they are still there next time I go back I'll probably get them.  I just got this bag because it was full of more junk.  Also, I can't say no to a tiny Yoda.

There was some figures in there from obviously different toy lines.  The Micro Machines vehicle line didn't come with figures, but I think they did do play sets which is where the smaller figures came from including the posed Han.  There are some other guys which are a little bigger and a hologram Emperor and a Salacious Crumb from whoknowswhere.  The little slug dude is Stinky from the Clone Wars animated movie.  His name is Stinky!

I even got some comics!  Marvel recently got the rights to the Star Wars comics back from Dark Horse, so they are going full speed with a few SW titles right now, but I'm just reading the main title which takes place after ROTJ.  I'll give one thing away right now, Boba Fett lives!

If you think a Archie Vs Predator comic won't have any gore you are wrong because in the second issue pretty all the supporting characters are slaughtered.  I can't wait for issue three!

That's it for now.  Wednesday night I'll put up an awesome post you won't want to miss!!

Close enough

I have lots of movies.  Lots and lots of movies.  So many that I keep buying new ones before I can watch the old ones.  Yesterday I went and bought myself a copy of Smokey and the Bandit II on DVD.

Yes, I already have the first one.

Tonight we went to watch Smokey and Bandit II, but when I opened the case it was a totally different movie!  Well, not completely different.

So we ended up watching The Cannonball Run instead.  Classic!  Now I want to watch Cannonball Run II AND Smokey and the Bandit II.  Luckily, I own Cannonball Run II, the hard part is finding it.

Spooraw

After being all bummed out because I won't be getting a Reese's t-shirt I was excited to see that Kellogg's has a new FREE promotion going on.

You get completely FREE, a Kellogg's branded character spoon.  Wait, it's not only a spoon, but also a straw?!  A spooraw??

This awesome because you don't have to mail in any UPCs or go online to enter some PIN codes, the prize is in right inside the box, it's instant gratification.  So of course soon as I got home I opened my box to see what I got.

I got the Rice Krispies spooraw which isn't my first choice, but it's better than the Corn Pops or Krave spooraws.  Why can't they just put the Tony the Tiger spooraw in the Frosted Flakes, Toucan Sam in the Fruit Loops, etc?  I mean if I like Frosted Flakes then I'm buying Frosted Flakes and want a Tony the Tiger spooraw.  They gotta mix 'em all up, fools be crazy.

As always its a limited time offer, so get yours today and if you get a Tony the Tiger or Fruit Loops one I'd be up for trading my Rice Krispies spooraw.

Age of U

If it is a long weekend then that must mean one thing here in Calgary...that its raining!  It rained pretty much all day today and right now it is actually coming down as snow.  Ugh.  Doesn't matter though, its not like I was going to go outside and enjoy the weather.

Yes, of course I kept my 3D glasses.

Instead we went and saw Avengers: Age of Ultron 3D over at Westhills.  Before the movie they played the trailers for Ant Man and Star Wars: The Force Awakens in 3D.  Cody was doing the exact same stuff as he did in our reaction trailer when we watched The Force Awakens.  The 3D takes to a whole 'nother level.  Cody's words too.

Then later on we revisited Furious 6, or as I call it Fast 6, because we saw Furious 7 when it came out last month.  I still love the tank scene and the brutal display of collateral damage.  Now Cody and I are going to re-enact the car stunts from the movie even the end credit warning said not to.

Popular demand

I was at Dollarama a few weeks ago getting wind up zombie toys, small plastic bins and of course...snacks.  I grabbed a package of Reese's Peanut Butter Cups because on the label there were a promo for a free Reese t-shirt!

Has it been 30 years already?

I took my Reese home and ate it, then a few days later actually read the package.  It said you need five UPCs to redeem online for the free shirt.  A Reese costs 77 cents at Dollarama, so times that by 5 plus GST it is $4.05, not bad for a new t-shirt.  I had plans to back to Dollarama and get four more Peanut Butter Cups, but luckily I looked online at the Reese page and saw this.

NOOOOOOOOooooooo.....

something something Star Wars reference

I was at Toys"R"Us the other day looking around because I need to get Avery a birthday present.  Sure it was his birthday a couple weeks ago, but I haven't been able to go back to Cranbrook and I'm not sure when I'm going back next, so that gives me lots of time to find something.  While I didn't see anything for Avery I ended up getting something for myself.  And going three posts in a row, it's Star Wars.

Hot Wheels has come out with die cast Star Wars vehicles and they are pretty sweet.  Back in the day I had almost all the Micro Machine Star Wars ships and I still do inside a Spider-Man gum box back in Cranbrook.  These are obviously larger and look way nicer.

It is die cast except for the dish on the top which is plastic.  It also comes with a clear plastic stand.  If you have space on your desk, then you need one of these to class it up.

The stand isn't just for show, you can put it on your finger and "fly" it around.

Wheeeee!!!

In addition to the Millenium Falcon, there is a Y-Wing, Snowspeeder, Slave II and the Ghost.  At first I had no idea what the Ghost is, but it's the ship from the new TV show, Star Wars Rebels.

I just plain bought it as soon as I saw it, but I think it was $6.99.  I'll probably be picking up the other (original) ships too and can't wait until they come out with the X-Wing and Star Destroyer.  I'll need to either get a bigger desk or just clean the one I got.

May the fourth/force be with you.

Some how May the 4th has become a Star Wars holiday.  This "holiday" is fairly new and seems to just have come out of nowhere, but I'm fine with it.  I'm hoping eventually it will be big enough and become a statutory holiday.  We can cancel Easter because one Jesus holiday is enough.

I picked up this neato Star Wars Doodles book which is an activity colouring book.  It has lots of pictures that you get to complete yourself the way you want.

This one lets you give Luke some cool sideburns.

Here you can trick out C-3PO and R2-D2 anyway you like.

This one lets you give Leia a new hairstyle.

This is the first thing that came to mind when I read the caption, Cam has me brainwashed.  I apologize for my crappy artistic talents.   It just goes to show that I'm useless at everything.  I also haven't used crayons forever and forgot how they smudge and smear all over the place.  The opposite page had crayons smears on it.

Spring cleaning

I'm sort of cleaning my room, but what I'm really doing is just organizing the crap all over my room into various piles.  Not much is actually getting cleaned, it's just getting moved around.  I have a got a few things I want to get rid of, but I'm not sure what to do with them.  They are still kind of cool, so I'm giving you guys a shot a getting some free crap.

First up are some shirts that no longer fit me.  They are all either sizes large or extra large that actually fit large.  Don't be scared, I shower every day and wash my clothes on a regular basis.  After the shirts it's just a bunch of various stuff.  Don't be shy, if you want something just let me know and it's yours.

A sweet Flashing Lights t-shirt which is actually brand new, size L.

Vintage Fort Steele tee which after probably 30+ years is now a medium size.

Another vintage ringer type tee.  I'm not sure what Princess of the Stars is, but I like the wolf on it.

Go to war with a brand new Battlefield 3 shirt!  Size L.

This is one is pretty new, a long sleeve shirt XL, but fits more like a L.

Flannel type long sleeve from American Eagle Outfitters which is a XL slim fit, so in normal sizes it might be a M.

Smashing Pumpkins Bullet with Butterfly Wings CD single.  I bought this for $2 then later remember than I had the box set of sings from Melon Collie and the Infinite Sadness.

A media player!  It's a touch screen media player for videos, music and photos.  I used to take it to work before I had my phone, so I could watch toku shows on my break.  Easy to use, just hook it to your computer via USB and drag and drop what your want to put on it.

Nissian Skyline 2000 Turbo GT-E-S, don't worry it won't take up much room.

It glows!

Kamen Rider OOO, Tatoba combo, mini bobble head figure.  About 5cm tall.

Another bobble head figure, this time KR OOO Sagohzo combo

Stack of 11 DVD from Taiwan!  Full of old cartoons from old Superman to Looney Tunes to Tom & Jerry.

Stylish Angry Birds Space slap bracelet.

That's it until next time I feel like cleaning.  See ya in six months!!
