Tis the season

Last year I said I was going to watch all the Friday the 13th movies in the month of October as a way to celebrate Halloween.  Then I failed miserably.  After that screw up I planned to watch some Christmas movies during December and again failed miserably.  I only managed to watch two Christmas/holiday specials the whole month, Eight Crazy Nights and the Pee-Wee's Playhouse Christmas Special.  I will try again the Christmas movies thing again this year and so far I've already managed to watch one movie!

Even though Grumpy Cat's Worst Christmas Ever was on Lifetime I passed it up to watch Jingle All The Way.  Believe it or not I've never seen it before!  Believe it or not I actually liked it!  We watched the extended version that has all the violence, gore, swearing and nudity not seen in the theatrical version.  Anyway, the movie has it's moments, Sinbad gets kicked in the nuts and a midget gets punched across a room.  What more could you ask for in a Christmas movie?

This is me realizing I pretty much haven't even started my Christmas shopping yet.

Internets

So I'm sure you'll all aware that the new Star Wars teaser trailer has been officially released.  I watched it, some of it was cool, some of it not so much.  Have you guys seen it yet?  Thought?  I won't mention anything until I know you guys have seen it first.  When I say "cool part" of the trailer, you probably know it soon as you see it.  In the meantime I'll just leave this picture here.

Random stuff

Here is bunch of stuff that happened recently.

I bought a bunch of random McDonald's toys from the thrift store.  Some are like transformers or something.  One's a soap dish!  They had some more toys, but I didn't get them and now I wish I did.  I don't know why I didn't as they were only 25 cents each.  I have a dish full of quarters in my room and I'm going back with it.  There will be a more in depth look later on.

Also, at the thrift store I bought a RCA cable.  I used to have like five of these brand new cables laying around, but I got rid of them because I didn't think I'd need them because all the new stuff is all HDMI.  Well, if you want to hook up something older, like my DVD recorder to a VHS player to the TV then you need RCA cables.  It was only $1.25 and cheaper than the dollar store, and the cable was suprisingly thick, not all thin and cheap looking.

I bought Silent Hill: Revelations 3D because it was cheap and it was 3D.   I need to buy more 3D movies to justify having a 3D TV.  It wasn't great, but I wasn't expecting it to be, so it all worked out.  For some reason I want to go back and watch the first movie again.  Also, there is a special feature on the 3D disc that doesn't work.  It works on the 2D blu-ray and it is pretty useless, so I'm not missing anything.

Lunch at Smash Burger!  I've made it known that I'm not a fan of the fries, but this time I tried the buffalo fries and they were pretty good.  I would get them again over the regular or smash fries.  Note my burgers has no vegetables on it at all.  It does have onions, but they're deep fried, so that doesn't count.  It was too much meat, it at least needed some lettuce.

That is all!

REEFER MADNESS 2

It has only taken 21 years, but it's finally here for the world's viewing pleasure, REEFER MADNESS 2 on home video!!!

I present to you the "official" REEFER MADNESS 2: BOOTLEG EDITION DVD.  The film has painstakingly under gone no preservation at all!  See it the way it was originally presented in Writing 12 class at Mount Baker High School back in 1993.  That's right, no improvement  or restoration to the video what so ever has been made in order to maintain it's theatrical credibility.

Don't worry film fanatics because we've opened up the vaults and REEFER MADNESS 2 BOOTLEG EDITION also includes all the raw footage with some special guests in the behind the scenes.  Also, ALL the credits are included.

If you thought that was all, then you're an idiot!  Also, look for footage from the infamous MBSS fire alarm!

You've all heard about it whether you wanted to or not, but now you can finally see it or relive it again!  REEFER MADNESS 2 BOOTLEG EDITION DVD COMING SOON!!!1

Note:  Reefer Madness 2 Bootleg Edition Dvd will not actually be released due to the fact that it is pretty much absolutely terrible.  You're welcome humanity.

I sort of forgot about Moustache Monday the past two weeks, but luckily I remembered just in time to get this sweet pic out to you.

CHiPs

I may have posted this before, but Covered Bridge potato chips are awesome!

They rule, but unfortunately they're also hard to find.  The only place that I've found that carries the large size bags is Sunterra Market.  It's a fancy overpriced grocery store up 17th near where I used to live.  I go still over there over because the place I get my haircut is in the same mini mall area.  When ever I go over to get a hair cut I always make sure to stop in a grab a bag of chips as well as some other goodies.  Sunterra Market is overpriced and fancy pants, but their bakery and ready to eat deli items are awesome.

I usually get a bag of plain old salted chips.  I've tried a couple other flavours, but regular salted is the best.  They're good and I always meant to give some to Cody to try, but once I open the bag I end up eating them all myself.  A couple trips ago I ended up getting two bags, just so I could give one to Cody.  He agrees, they rule!

The best part is that they are made with dark russet potatoes.  Even though some of their other flavours are also made with dark russet potatoes they still aren't as good as the sea salt.  Last time I got Cody a bag of  Barbecue, he didn't like them as much as sea salt either.  After I had picked up the chips at Sunterra I went down to the ghetto Dollarama in Westbrook and they had Covered Bridge chips there!  For almost half the price!  They only had the Barbecue flavour, but if they had the Sea Salt I would've walked out with an arm load.

The power of dark russet potato chips!

When I was on vacation this summer in PEI and Nova Scotia I was hoping we could make a trip to New Brunswick to go to Hartland and go on Covered Bridge factory.   They had a gift shop!!!!  Unfortunately, the part of N.B. I saw was out the car window driving from PEI to N.S.   The world's longest covered bridge is located in Hartland, that's where Covered Bridge chips got their name.  Now that I taught you something, I'll end it here.

80's crap

Just like I promised, here is the crappy picture!

Those are bags of M.U.S.L.E.s from a box down in the basement.  The small bag are the original guys I've picked up at flea markets and thrift stores.  They are scuffed up and some even have custom paint jobs.  I still bought them because you don't see them very often.

The giant bag is the newer Ultimate Muscle figures which are toys brought over the new cartoon that was on Fox Kids.  I forced Cam to watch it once .  The first episode is pretty classic, you don't even need to watch any more episodes after that, it peaked pretty quick.  As for the figures I got a lot of them in a different variations, flesh, coloured, gold, silver, translucent and painted.  They even made posed versions of them performing their finishing moves.  I know you know this because I put pictures up before way back when I was on MySpace.  The best part was that I bought a lot of them from Wal-Mart for 99 cents each.  I literally had a shopping cart full of them, they must've thought I was nuts.  Then I went and sold an entire apple box worth of Ultimate Muscle figures online and made a hefty $4 profit.  I felt bad charging the guy a lot for them when I bought them so cheap.  I'm a terrible business man.  On the plus side the guy who bought them included a custom molded M.U.S.C.L.E. figure with his payment so there's that.

Even though I didn't have a lot of M.U.S.C.L.E. figures I still thought they were awesome.  I remember going to Toys and Wheels and looking at them.  I did get a few of them and the cool wrestling ring and I still have them all back in Cranbrook.  The giant hand guy was the best for the wrestling ring because he was so big you had to jam him in the holder so it was hard to knock him out.

Old stuff is cool.

Dino Drac FTW

As you know I'm a lazy and boring person which makes consistently coming up to blog posts pretty difficult.  I don't ever do anything cool and I don't want to put in the work for a decent blog entry.  This time I'm taking the easy way out and linking to an article Matt did over at Dinosaur Dracula about M.U.S.C.L.E.!!   Read it and enjoy and maybe tomorrow I'll have more.  Probably not, just a picture of something stupid I bet.  Later!

PS ~ If are stumped on what to buy me for X-mas then you should definitely read the article.  Hint hint.

The Thristy Games

Yesterday it was pretty nice for a November day, sunny and warm.  Of course today that all changed pretty quick being Calgary and all.

This was what I was greeted with Sunday morning.  It's cold and going to get colder later in the week.  The weather forecast is talking about -20C lows and with the wind chill it will feel more like -30C.  I spent the day inside watching movies and playing video games.  And what a better way to stay warm than with a warm drink in my brand new Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part I mug.

I was filling up at Petro Canada last week and saw they have a promotion for Hunger Games mugs.  I figured I'd get one because I'm all about stupid promotional crap like this.  They had a poster up talking about "Collect them all!" but when I went to pick one out they all looked exactly the same, black with the movie logo on the front.  I just grabbed a random one.  The mug sat on the kitchen table for a few days before I actually looked at it and noticed they had logos on them that would be revealed with a hot drink was inside.

The heat revealing logos are pretty cool, but the fact that the mug is plastic is pretty lame.  It just seems cheap and gets hot pretty easily.  If you ever drop it I guess you don't have to worry about breaking it.

The logos appeared pretty quickly and really stood out, the picture doesn't do them justice.  After adding the water the mug also produced a foul toxic plastic smell.  We're supposed to drink out of this thing?  I didn't wash it beforehand, so maybe actually washing it would make a difference.

I'll admit I've never read the books watched the movies, so I don't really know anything about the series or the districts which have their logos featured on the mugs.  I know my mug is probably the lamest one, it has a spool of thread and needle on it.  Where are the bad ass districts with skulls and crossed swords/guns and stuff?

The logo on the bottom of the inside of the mug is a nice touch, although still sucks it is a plastic mug.

Maybe one day I'll find the movies on DVD at the thrift store for $2 and I'll finally see what the big deal is all about.  Maybe the thread and needle guys are cool, but I doubt it.

MASK

I found this cool paper mask on the floor at work.  I couldn't bring myself to throw it out, so I brought it home.  It is done in a classic crayon style.

The best part is that the mask is double sided.  Unfortunately, it is a little creepy as it has lips on it.  I can pass it along to Cam and he put it beside a kid's picture that we found on the sidewalk one day.  I wish I drawed as good as that kid.

Loners Rebels

Last week I got a package in the mail and it was a t-shirt I ordered online.  It came from the US, so with shipping and exchange it turned out to be a very expensive t-shirt.  I think its totally worth it though.

Here is the front and I think you can see where this is going.  If you don't recognize that line, I don't even want to know you cuz you suck.

Finally get to show some love for Pee-Wee's Big Adventure!  FYI, Shout Factory just released Pee-Wee's Playhouse the complete series on Blu-ray and DVD.  Still waiting for them to do an awesome collector's edition of PW's Big Adventure.

So the shirt was super expensive, but at least 8-Bit Zombie was cool enough to throw in some freebies.  Goodie bags with every order!

The bag has some candy, two buttons, a sticker and a MUSCLE.   I was pretty stoked on the MUSCLE,

Also some random trading cards for Ghostbusters II, Goonies, ALF and Robocop 2.

But wait...there's more!

Since it was before Halloween there was bonus Halloween crap thrown in too, mostly candy and some junky toys.  I do like the snake.

I love this Bag of Boogers Gummies.  I want to eat them, but they're so cool I want to save them forever and forever.

In other 80's cheese related news, cult classic UHF is being re-released on Blu-ray next Tuesday, again from Shout Factory.  It has all the same bonus stuff as the DVD plus an extra interview.   It also has some cool cover art.  Dear Santa...

Hardcore POV

Watch  this video!  It is pretty cool!

It is currently doing an Indiegogo campaign to raise money for a feature length film.  It's pretty cool in that short clip, but an entire feature film done POV style?   The will have to hand out Gravol at showings.  They should do a short film, the concept might hold up better.  Either way I'll definitely watch it.

X-Mas is coming

Now that it's November it's time to put away your Chip Ahoy! Halloween cookies and break out the Holiday Chips Ahoy! because Christmas is coming!

I wonder if the Halloween versions of Chips Ahoy! and Oreo will get marked down 50% off like all the Halloween candy?  If not, then they should!

Where there's smoke, there's fire

On Thursday night I was watching the news and they had a story about a town house fire in the SW.  I kept watching and they started talking to the guy whose place caught fire.  I noticed the house in the background looked exactly like ours!  Turns out one of the units in our complex had a fire which spread to the one next door.

The place didn't even have a smoke detector and neither did the place next door.  On the news they said the fire department would be going door to door checking to make sure everyone had a fire alarm.  We have a smoke detector on every floor, the one on the main floor goes off every time you use the oven.  Ours are wired, so they don't require batteries.  Turns out a quarter of the units didn't even have smoke detectors in them.  What are we paying rent for again??

http://calgary.ctvnews.ca/video?clipId=481026

Fun fact, two of our smoke detectors weren't even hooked up.  They were removed because they were annoying and kept going off when we would use the oven.  Don't worry, Cody saw the same news cast in the morning and put them back up.  Now we can sleep easy unless we're over come by carbon monoxide fumes in the middle of the night.
