Big Flop Pee-Wee

I still haven't signed up for Netflix yet because I'm lazy and like to do things at my own pace, I will do it eventually.  In the meantime I dusted off my Big Top Pee-Wee DVD tonight and watched it to get pumped for Pee-Wee's Big Holiday.

In Pee-Wee's Big Adventure there are lots of stand out scenes, jokes and lines that you remember years and decades later. I don't remember much about Big Top Pee-Wee except the basic plot, a circus crash lands on his farm during a storm.  Then I watched it and realized why I didn't remember much, it wasn't that great.  There are a couple funny parts, but overall it lacked the kookiness and the fun of Pee-Wee's Big Adventure.

Pee-Wee is a real horn dog in Big Top as when he meets his girlfriend Winnie for lunch he literally throws himself on her trying to get some action, not once but twice.  Then later on when he falls for circus girl Gina and they kiss I swear it was a minute long take of the two of them kissing.  The camera is close up and then pulls out to a wide panoramic shot.  After the first ten seconds I was like, "This is getting creepy", but then the scene just kept going!  Eventually Pee-Wee totally scores and it cuts to some stock footage of a train going into a tunnel, fireworks going off, waves crashing on rocks and some lady mud wrestlers.  Not really what I want in a Pee-Wee Herman movie.  Cara might like this sexed up version of Pee-Wee though.

The following sequence is the best in the whole movie, I also like the Abraham Lincoln bit right near the start as well.

Starr Warz

Last week I did a rambling post and was talking about playing Star Wars Battlefront and some of my stats and at the time of my post my KDR was 1.12.  I played a little bit during the week, but honestly wasn't doing very good.  Then on last Friday night I play four or five matches and was absolutely on fire.  The first match I played I went 20-0 mostly playing as Han Solo and using his Lucky Shot to blast guys across the Hoth map.  I was still managing to go like 22-6 and 16-4 for some of my other matches.  Usually I don't play consistently well in consecutive matches, I guess I was playing some real noobs.  At the end of night my KDR went up to 1.23 which doesn't sound like much and it probably isn't to actually skilled players.

Since last time I posted I blew up 38 more vehicles and managed to kill myself only once.

Since I did so good on Friday I was scared to play again because I knew there was no way I'd play that good again.  I held out until Monday before picking it up again and I started out pretty crappy but I played a slightly better in my last match and I think I broke even on the day.

To make this an all Star Wars post I gotta tell you I went to London Drugs on Saturday to pick up some snacks that I can only get there like this Mexican tuna salad that's made in Italy.  Remember I showed you those Star Wars trading cards I was buying and trying to get the set?  Well, those pretty much dried up a while ago and you can't find them anywhere now.  Well I was getting my Italian Mexican tuna salad I found a single pack of those Star Wars cards.  I bought it of course because I was still two cards short of completing the main set.  Guess what?  GUESS?!  Both the cards I needed to finish the set were in that pack.  I was so relived to finally find them.  I'm still short a few insert cards for the sub-sets, but I'm not going to worry about those.

I got this on DVD!  I had been waiting for it come out for a while too since I had seen some it of when it aired on Disney XD, but missed the final two instalments.  Droid Tales is a five episode Lego  Star Wars adventure that take places at the end of Return of the Jedi and has C-3PO retelling the accounts of the first six Star Wars movies to anyone who will listen as he pursues a mystery figure who has kidnapped R2-D2.

Of course it's made for kids, but it's still enjoyable because it's funny and it's Star Wars.  It makes parodies the entire Star Wars universe and all the films.  My favourites were episodes four and five which cover The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi.  Overall, it's pretty solid and I hope they continue to make more Lego Star Wars shows like this in the future.

It might be on Netflix, I still haven't signed up yet, so I don't know.  If it is then you should definitely check it out.  I told Mike to get it for Eli since he's into Lego, so it would be a good way to introduce him to Star Wars.  He probably didn't listen though just like he never got Eli a Nerf gun.

Check out a few screen shots of the DVD below.

DESTROYING AMERICA

If you are looking at the post title and wondering if this post is about Donald Trump's presidential platform, then you're wrong.  It's the title of a movie I watched yesterday and it's not a documentary about corporate America or environmental destruction.  It's a skateboard movie!

I got this used DVD for $3 and couldn't say no to Tony Hawk, Erik Estrada and Ming Tran with a big explosion behind them.  Other than those three I'm not at all familiar with any of the cast of this movie from 2001.  It's presented by Hook-Ups, a skate company, which I had seen ads for in the magazine Giant Robot back in the day.  The ads always had Ming Tran dressed in a school girl sailor suit kicking some dude in the head.  Turns out that dude is Jeremy Klein, owner of Hook-Ups and one of the stars of the movie.

For a skateboard there is surprisingly little skateboard action.  The movie runs about 48 minutes long and maybe fifteen minutes of that is skateboarding.  There is an extremely loose story that has Jeremy Klein and Heath Kirchart going around in an extremely beat up van doing dumb stuff while being chased by a cop played by Erik Estrada.  Also, throw in a couple unrelated skits that has Jeremy Klein getting his ass kicked by Ming Tran and then he visits a skate park as his Gayblader character.

Here Jeremy and Heath drive through van through a Christmas tree lot.

After that they drive the van through an outdoor taco stand.

How can you replace the engine twice, but never have changed the oil???

The van gets pretty destroyed and is constantly changing appearance as the movie goes on.  One bit has them driving van over shrubs and small trees out in the California back roads.  Of course they get stuck and hung up a couple times and stopped dead once when they try to run over a larger tree.

Later on in the movie they get into a car chase with Erik Estrada and as they drive down the roads the van and the cop car are smashing into each and trying to take each other out.  Near the end of the chase the cop car is running on the rim on the of the rear wheels and there are sparks flying, it's ridiculous.  Heath Kirchart was the stunt driver for cop car and apparently it didn't even have a seat belt in it.  Safety first!

Tony Hawk shows up as a pizza delivery guy which no doubt is a homage to his character from Gleaming the Cube.  They show his name tag, but the they pixelate the Pizza Hut logo, but you can still tell what it is.  They must have made Tony use his own car because he's driving a Lexus.  I should switch jobs if pizza delivery guys can afford to drive a Lexus.

The movie is pretty dumb, yet some how entertaining.  It's mostly Jeremy Klein and Heath Kirchart doing stupid stuff with brief flashes of skateboarding.  At the end the two of them come across Erik Estrada's cop car, so they start smashing it with with sledgehammer and pickaxe as well as setting fire to parts of it with gasoline and lighter fluid.  Erik Estrada shows up and and they take off and he chases after them in his car which amazingly still runs.  They drive their van into a parkade only to have it get stuck because it's too tall.  The jump out and run up to the top level with Erik still chasing them.  Erik's car loses control and goes off the roof, fall to the ground and explodes.  They high five.  The End.

Still better than anything Nicolas Cage has been in recently, but if I want to see some skateboarding I'll watch my copy of Public Domain.

Stuff

Guess what I've been doing?  I'm kidding you don't have to guess because I'm going to tell you!  Prepare to read some words.

Last Friday, March 18th, I only worked a morning shift, so after I was done I went over to Best Buy which is across the street from where I work.  If you remember I was pimping the Star Wars EDM  album a while ago and March 18th was the release date.  I went to BB to just see if they carried it and what the price was going to be.  They didn't have the CD, in fact they didn't have any CDs at all.  I asked the customer service girl about it and she said they only sell CDs online which is kinda stupid.  Most people go to actual stores to buy CDs and go online to buy digital music. I say most people because I just bought a couple CDs online the other day, but they were Japanese, so it's not like I could buy them here anyway.

I didn't get the Star Wars CD, but I ended up Just Cause 3 for the XBone.  It was down to that or Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare 2.  I got Just Cause 3 because it was cheaper and it came with a download code for Just Cause 2, so you are really getting 2 games.  In addition to only working a half day on Friday I also got Saturday, Sunday and Monday off, so I got lots of time to mess around with it.  It's just "okay", but I'm thinking maybe I should've gotten PvZ.  I'll admit to not being very good at it and most of the time I'm just going around doing my own thing and blowing up stuff and liberating towns and taking over bases.  The missions so far are pretty boring which is why I prefer to spend my time doing whatever I want.  There are lots of side activities, but I haven't even attempted to finish one yet.  I saw there is a racing one, but the vehicles controls don't seem that great.  Blowing stuff up and the explosions look real pretty which can cause some brutal frame rate drops.  Also, load times can be pretty lengthy.

Since Best Buy didn't have that Star Wars CD I was looking for I went to Wal-Mart on Saturday because Wal-Mart is awesome!  Or so I thought because turns out they didn't have it either.  I did a online check for HMV and they don't carry it either.  Over at Amazon.ca they do have it, but it's an import.  Thanks Disney, you can't release it in Canada or something?  I guess they don't want our colourful money.

Usually I work Sunday, so it was weird to get Sunday off.  I had all these plans to get up and go to the Sunnyside flea market because I haven't been there for so long.  I got up, got ready, got dressed to go out and then I was like forget it I'm staying inside like the anti-social loser I am.  I played Just Cause 3 and then I cleaned the toilet and the shower, then I played Star Wars Battlefront.  They introduced daily challenges in Battlefront, so I admit I have been playing it more lately.  I still suck at it, but at least I'm better than Cam.  I'm currently at rank 45 and so close to top rank which is rank 50.  They need to do another 2X weekend to help me get there.

Those are my Battlefront stats, they are not the best, but they are the best I can do.  I mostly play Walker Assault and I make it my mission to take out all the AT-STs I can when playing as Rebels, so some of the 455 vehicles destroyed are fighters and even a couple AT-ATs, most are AT-STs.  I love blowing up vehicles which I why I loved the engineer class in Battlefield 3.  Also, I'm sure you noticed the 79 suicides.  Some of those are on accident, some I killed myself to take out an enemy player, but most were done on purpose.  I'll kill myself without hesitation if it means robbing an enemy player of a kill and points.  I'm a jerk like that!  I end up doing it a lot playing Fighter Squadron.

Today on Monday, my final day off I bought some groceries, went to Cash Converters, the thrift store, played more Star Wars and watched the first two episodes of Doubutsu Sentai Jyuohger.  Some of my groceries consisted of two more boxes of Frosted Flakes, so that means I'm getting another spoon!

I had planned on getting Netflix by last Friday, so I could watch Pee-Wee's Big Holiday, but I haven't gotten around to it yet.  I see Cam and Cara have watched it and had differing views about it.  Well I value Cara's opinion, I trust Cam's more.  I will be checking this out soon!

Since I've been staying up later than usual and sleeping in later than usual I better get to sleep.  Later.

Just a reminder

Earlier this week Cam sent me an e-mail with the following picture reminding me to remind anyone who reads this that Pee-Wee's Big Adventure is available on Netflix, March 18th.  Hey, that is this Friday!

Cam looks just as excited about this movie as I am!

Cara made Cam pixel out her view history of Fuller House, Step By Step, Power Rangers and who knows what else.  Does Netflix show porn?  Anyway, if you're bored and you must be to be here, then go back to a month ago where I posted the trailer for Pee-Wee's Big Holiday and get pumped up.  I'm going to watch it now!

OH MY GAWD YOU GUYS!!!1

This morning I went to Co-op to buy a few groceries and was in the cereal aisle because I ate all my Honey Nut Cheerios.  I bought two boxes of Frosted Flakes because...

FREE PERSONALIZED SPOON OFFER!

A free personalized spoon obviously isn't going to be in the box, so you have to go online and enter two PIN codes and fill out the necessary information.  Something as rad as a personalized spoon is going to require two codes to get and it's totally worth it.

Once you have your codes head over to https://spoons.kelloggs.ca/ to being building your free custom spoon.

The first step is to pick which Kellogg's mascot you want on your spoon.  I went with Tony the Tiger.

Why is Chocovore even on here?  The cereal is good, but he's a terrible mascot.

Here is where you can put your name, nickname, alias, gamertag or whatever but it can't be over 11 letters and can't use numbers or special characters.  I was bummed because on the Frosted Flakes box it shows the spoon with a sentence on it, so I was excited thinking we can put all sorts of slogans and one liners on our spoons.  It was too good to be true.

I made my spoon with my name on it for starters.  Gotta start with the basics and after that if I get more codes then it's time to run wild.  Just so you know I'll probably be eating cereal everyday trying to get as many codes as I can.

The next step is to put in your two PIN codes which turned out to be way harder than it looks.  The codes printed on the inside of the box were a bit hard to read.  The first time I entered the code I put in what looked like a "O", but it came up as invalid, so then I used "0" which still was invalid.  Anyway, it was a "D", a horribly misshaped "D".  Use a better clearer printing method next time Kellogg's.

Now it's time to sit back and wait the 90 days to get my free spoon.  In case you are wondering the spoon is stainless steel, so its definitely worth it.  Get as many as you can!

Cody suggested getting spoons and putting Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, etc on them so you can have one for every day of the week.  Maybe on my second spoon I'll get something like Boogerman, Max Power or Boo-urns.  Unfortunately, Shiney McShine has too many characters.  I'm also open to suggestions!

Special K(eith)

I got some mail today!

It has got a Special K logo on it.  Can it be?  Has it been 6 - 8 weeks so soon?

The contents of the box are actually listed on the back of the box which helps if you are looking to steal one.  This may have happened to Cody because he entered his codes for his Vector tracker a couple weeks before I put in my codes and he hasn't received his yet.

The box don't lie, there was an activity tracker inside and some instructions if you are into those kinds of things.  Once out of the box you'll need to set it up with the time/date as well as your height, weight and stride length.  Once all that is entered you are all set and the activity tracker will measure speed, distance travelled, calories burned, active minutes and steps.

Of course I'll just end up using it as a watch.

Or it'll get tossed in a drawer and forgotten.  It's too big and bulky and it's not very comfortable to wear.

The display lights up so you can check your calories burned while working out in the dark.  They really thought of everything.  Wow, I can't believe this was free!

I'm seeing stars

Cody had heard rumours of a Carl's Jr opening near the North Hill Mall on 16th Ave NW for a while now.  Nothing panned out until recently he was informed it finally opened.  While Cody was in BC for Family Day I was over in that area getting something for my sister and drove by to see it first hand.  It was there and it was real!  We went over there last Friday to check it out.

Carl's Jr is on 16th Ave just across the street from SAIT.  It's actually where an Arby's used to be.  In fact I think I even posted a picture of the sign on here once upon a time or maybe it was on my long lost MySpace page??

Those cars you see on the right hand side of the picture, that is the parking lot...the entire parking lot.  The parking there sucks.

Low carb?  What is it, an empty box?

The overall verdict is that it's okay, but Smash Burger is better.  We got got Thick Burgers, which come in a 1/2lb or 1/3lb patty.  I got the 1/2lb El Diablo!  It has jalapeno poppers on top of the burger and then japalenos on the bottom of the burger.  It was too much jalapeno, it took away from the flavour of the burger.

I would like to eat there again and I'm sure we will.  I'd also like to make sure to order waffle fries next time.  I didn't even notice they had waffle fries until after I placed my order.

More like drink like you mean it.  Am I right??

I also a got a large combo with mine, but only because I wanted large fries.  The drink was enormous, I only wish the fries were as large.

We are probably going to check out another food establishment that's been on our wish list for a long time.

It's Nerf or nothing!

Thanks to the magic of social media and the internet I learned that Nerf had made some Star Wars themed blasters, but now all I had to do was find them.  I had been checking whenever I was at Wal-Mart, but never saw any.  Today I was at Toys'R'Us and I finally found some when I spotted the First Order Stormtrooper Blaster Rifle.

It looked pretty cool, it was big and came with a twelve dart clip, but unfortunately when I scanned at the price checker it came up at $56.  That is pretty expensive for something that won't ever be able to actually hit what you are aiming at.  They also had smaller slightly less expensive Han Solo blaster as well as a Rey blaster.

An exact replica of Han Solo's blaster, well except for the size and the fact that it's blue and orange and says Star Wars right on it, but other than that it's pretty close!

They also had

I wish it held more darts especially considering the price point.  I'm not sure what Nerf guns normally go for, but it seemed expensive for something that only comes with four darts.  As you can see the darts have a Star Wars logo on them, so if you lose any you are kinda screwed.  Some searching online shows you can buy refills, but I have feeling that would probably work out to cost as much as the gun.

Also, LOL at the tactical rail on the bottom of the gun!  That's in case Han wants to put a tact light or laser light on there.

The eyes and face are a no-no, the balls are a-ok!

What kind of trouble can I get into?

I did a quick search for "Star Wars Nerf" and it looks like there is also a Chewbacca Bowcaster and a small Imperial pistol out there as well.  Maybe if this stuff ever goes on sale, I might get another one.  I'd like the Imperial blaster pistol...because it's cheap.  Mike you better get Eli a couple of these!

During my Google search I was looking at the images that came up and there is a picture of the Solo and Rey blaster that have been repainted to make them look more like the originals.  They look pretty cool!

You gotta break an egg to make a biscuit

A week after Christmas we already had Easter candy at work.  It's actually been out on the shelf for quite a while too(a week and half after Christmas) and Easter isn't even until March 27th.  If it's Easter time then that means Cadbury Creme Eggs.  This year they've done a few different things like introducing a new Oreo Creme Egg which is unfortunately not very good.  Another thing they've done is turned the Creme Egg into a cookie!

Another limited edition item, so stock up before it's too late!

It's still looks like the same inside just flatter.  These are pretty awesome, I'll just say they are actually better than the original Creme Egg.  I know Cara is egg prejudice, but if she doesn't like these than she is a lost cause.
