Dork ahoy!

I'm back in Calgary!  Yaahh??  Anyway, I pretty much did a whole lot of nothing when I was back in Cranbrook.  Then again I don't really feel the need to do anything anyway, so it all worked out pretty good.  I went skiing one day and it was crazy busy.  Willie, Cody and I went to Liquidation World which is probably closing sooner than later as the entire store is already 20% off.  And I watched some Captain Caveman.  If you like animated gifs I have a ton of ideas for Captain Caveman and I'm only halfway through the first disc!

While I was digging through some old photos looking for a picture from one of my birthdays past I found that old picture of me in front of the Christmas tree.  I also dug up a couple other pictures of lil' Keith, so feel free to laugh.

Rocking the Pac-man t-shirt in the McDonald's play area in Colville, Washington.  I think the most embarrassing thing about this picture to me is that I'm wearing sweat pants.

Coolest guy (n)ever!!  I don't need to tell you guys where this was taken, you can totally tell.  Also, I still manage to come off cooler than contemporary Keith.  *sigh*

I still haven't found the picture I was looking for in the first place.  I know it's there because I saw it within the last year or so.  It's there somewhere!  One day long after I've given up looking for it I'll find it.

MOTTO

Today Cody came in from Moyie and we met up with Willie to hit up all the Cranbrook hot spots including Pages Book Emporium.  For some reason Willie was browsing the "Classics" literature section when he came across a copy of Animal Farm by George Orwell.  Willie said it had the same cover as the copies we had in school.  I don't ever remember reading it in school and if I did it probably was because I had to, not because I wanted to.  Hence, why I don't remember reading it because I forgot it as quick as I read it.

Willie was right when the book turned out to be from the Parkland school library.  Also, why is that pig so huge?  Is the book about giant mutant pigs?  Maybe I should've read it.

Can't make out the names of student who took out this book?  There is bigger version below.

MIKE OTTO?!  What a find, I mean, what are the chances of this?  Finding a book that Motto took out, and I can't really seeing him taking that many books out of the school library either, especially Animal Farm.  Willie actually got the book as one day it will be a big collector's item when Mike Otto gets famous for something...or infamous for something.  What I really want to know is if Mike actually read the book.  There weren't any pictures inside.

X-MESS

Hope everyone had a good Christmas, got lots of cool stuff and ate a bunch of turkey.  I did all that stuff!

I got more DVDs to add to my already too large collection, but at least they are awesome old school Hanna-Barbera classics!  Jabberjaw is basically a rip-off/clone of Scooby-Doo and I guess Captain Caveman is sort of the same and both series involve solving mysteries.

I got a new wiper for rear wind shield of my car.  I know it's pretty boring, but it is something I actually need unlike everything else I received.

Don't worry because I got socks!  Avery gave me some socks for Christmas and I guess he picked them out, wrapped them and everything.  The have this fundraiser for the high school (I think) where kids can go in and go with a high schooler and pick out something donated from businesses for pretty cheap prices.  Avery went and got me some socks.

TACO SOCKS!

Good job Avery! I will make sure to wear these next time I go to Taco Bell.

While I was out buying Christmas stuff this year I was at HMV and they had 25% off holiday decorations, so I bought this cool Oscar the Grouch tree ornament.

My only complaint is that he looks too happy!

Also, my Makit & Bakit Donald Duck ornament I made last year is still hanging in there.

If you guys got any cool stuff let me know!

Christmas is coming

I've been slacking on my Christmas related posts.  It's not that I don't have anything to write about, it's just I haven't been very good at making time to write them.  I found some Pillsbury cookies that I bought and put in my fridge and then sort of forgot about.  Last night I was going to "bake" and blog it because it was super easy.  Turns out I was all out of aluminium foil, so I had nothing to line my dirty old baking sheet with.

I'd say something like "so easy even I can do it" except I can't.  Last time I made these type of cookies they came out a little burned.  Anyway, I scrapped the cookie idea and fell back on another Christmas post.

I watched this!  It turned out to be one the better TV Christmas specials I've seen.  Yes, there was some signing, but it's Pee-wee, so it was pretty funny too.  It's starts off with Pee-wee finishing up his Christmas list and giving it to Reba to mail to Santa Claus.  Various people and celebrities all stop by to wish Pee-wee a merry Christmas and everyone gives him a fruit cake.  At the end Santa shows up and tells Pee-wee that his list is too long and if he gets everything he wants then no other children will get gifts.  Pee-wee reluctantly tells Santa he doesn't need anything and they go off to deliver presents to all the kids.

Some of the best parts are when Pee-wee forces Frankie Avalon and Annette Funicello to hand make 1000 Christmas cards and when they finally finish he tell them to make envelopes.  Also, when Ricardo tries to teach Pee-wee how to pronounce "feliz navidad".  Feliz blabbyblah!  I could go on!  Pee-wee also has an addition added to the Playhouse made entirely out all the fruit cakes he received.

I was going to write a post last night and have some screen caps, but then I was too busy packing and picking out what CDs I was going to take for the drive.   Since I'm posting it now, it's obvious I'm back!

I worked this morning for a half day shift and then came home and loaded up the car and drove back.  The weather in Calgary was pretty nice, it warmed up and it was all blue sky and sun.  Then I once I got close to the Crowsnest it turned to rain, then snow and the road conditions went from "bare" to "what road?"  I was making good time until I hit the snow and it totally slowed down.  I was pretty much stuck in pockets of traffic all the way back to Cranbrook.  The weather and road conditions seemed to changed every 20kms of so, it was pretty annoying.

Anyway, I'm glad I made it back, so now I can relax and do it all again on the weekend.  In the meantime I'm busy unpacking my car.

The back of my car right before I left and it is packed full.  It's not coming back with me...I hope.

My socks feel weird.

Ginger

I thought it seemed weird that Christie made a Halloween variation of the Oreo, but did nothing for Christmas which is a bigger holiday.  Turns out they did and I just wasn't paying attention!

I was buying some groceries this morning at Co-op and decided to wander down the cookie aisle and just have a look.  Good thing I did because I spotted the limited edition Gingerbread Oreos!

I was all stoked because they were gingerbread, but if you read the package they are just gingerbread flavour crème.  That doesn't matter because they taste pretty damn good.  I thought I'd try one and ended up eating a couple.  Normally I'm not a fan of the vanilla Oreo cookies, but the gingerbread filling makes up for it.  They are WAY better than the Halloween and Birthday Oreos.  Plus they smell all gingerbread-y too.  Go get some before it's too late!

Comic bewbs

Here is the third part of pictures, art and sketches from my portfolio.

I got this Spidey sketch at the Calgary Comic Expo, but I feel bad because now I can't even remember who I got it from!

Same goes for this Susan Storm/Invisible Woman print from the same show.

This is a page of X-Files test art that Calgary artist Claude St. Aubin did for Topps Comics in order to get a gig pencilling on their X-Files series.  I got it at the old crummy comic show back in '98?  I think I paid $25 or $30 for it which at the time seemed expensive, but now seems like a deal.

More Claude St. Aubin art.  This one is a page from the Spectacular Spider-Man Super Special.

Black Cat from Elton Ramahalo.  Shaddup!  I know Black Cat is supposed to be "sexy" or whatever, but I actually would've preferred it if her costume had been zipped up.  This crap gives comic books nerds the bad rep they deserve.

When William B. Davis came to Calgary on a speaking tour I went and saw him at the U of C and he signed my copy of that week's FFWD paper with him on the cover.  I also have a signed ticket stub from the show.  After the show he was signing stuff and I was right at the very back of the line.  Eventually I got near the front of the line and then the fire alarm went off and we all had to leave.  Davis was very nice about the whole thing saying everyone should evacuate the building and he would happy to sign and meet everyone once it was safe.  It was a false alarm and we got let back in and he signed my stuff.  I had already waited through a big line up and fire alarm, leaving was not an option.  You guys already know this because I've told you before.

The Gary Coleman "On the Right Track" autographed picture.  I just posted this recently but haven't gotten around to getting it framed.  I also haven't gotten around to building a fireplace with mantle to hang it over.

This is the Archie art that started the whole "I'm going to post all the pictures of stuff from my portfolio".  I got two pieces of original Archie art from a guy down at the Sunnyside flea market.  I've seen him down there a couple times, but I've never bought anything from him.

He did have some Archie pages, but I didn't want just a page because a single page without the rest of the story is a bit weird.  I decided to go with something more stand alone like the one page short above and the half page below.

The full page doesn't say who drew it, but it's from an issue of Reggie's Jokes #3 Dec.  I'm assuming it's old because on the back of the page it's stamped with an Archie copyright stamp of 1968.  Damn, I didn't think it was that old.  The Archie art has looked the same for so long, it's hard to tell.

This half page didn't have a date stamp, but it does have the people who worked on it and one of them is "Parent" who I'm assuming is Dan Parent.  He drew my other Archie piece I already posted!  The page is from Veronica's Summer Special #615.

I'm going to end it all with another music poster this time from the Weezer concert in Calgary back in 1997!

I gots...

...tha swagger.

Git er done!

In a fit of last minute shopping I ran around and impulse bought whatever I thought people might want or need.  In other words, mission accomplished!  I still need to get my sister something small, but that is no problem.  I only managed to buy myself a few things this year too.  I usually end up doing that just to make sure I get what I really want because if you want something done right you have to do it yourself.

My sister said to get some craft thing for Avery, so I got him some Shrinky Dinks.  I also got him these because I wanted them!  I got them at Michael's and also saw some Makit & Bakit kits and almost bought the cat kit.

Another thing I wanted, but I got for Avery.  I actually wanted a Scooby-Doo one, but they were all out.   That's why I didn't get one for myself.

I did buy myself a pair of hobo gloves!

I think I should be asking Santa for a new rear wind shield wiper because I think mine is broken.

My car is a little bit dirty.  Santa can you wash it too?  Thanks.

Now comes the hard part of gift wrapping everything.  I've bought a few gift bags and a couple things I don't even plan on wrapping.  I'll just stick a bow on them or something.  I also have a few large boxes that are pretty big and too much of a pain to wrap, so I bought giant gift bags at Dollarma.  Basically, they're garbage bags with a Christmas print.  They are made out of the thinnest plastic material, so you can actually see through the bag without even trying too hard.  Made I should just actual black garbage bags?  I wonder if anyone will mind?

My sister told me that Liquidation World aka LW aka LDub is closing this Febuary!  Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo..........................

I better make sure to visit at Christmas.

CAN

I've been driving around on an almost empty tank of gas for a few days now and since I had to do some driving around today I figured I'd better gas up.  I went over to the Petro Canada in Signal Hill and when I went to fill it up there was a note on the pump that they were all out of regular gas.  Yeah right, I'm sure they were "out" of regular leaving us no choice but to buy the higher priced premium gasolines.  And their plan worked because that is what I did.

I didn't have much choice as my car was already on fumes.  I should put some of the better gas in my sometimes as it probably deserves it.  It doesn't act up or cause any problems and it starts when it's -30C outside and I don't plug it in even though there is a plug in like five feet away.  Still premium gas here in Calgary is cheaper than what you chumps in BC pay for regular gas.  Ha ha!

When I went inside to pay for my gas I was also looking around for the Olympics glasses I saw on a TV ad the other day.  I found them!

I got one glass and I didn't even pay it because I just redeemed some of my Petro Points.  I remember back in 1988 when my dad still had the Petro Canada.   For years after that Olympic promotion we still had a cupboard full of those Olympic glasses in our basement.  If you washed those glasses in the dishwasher the gold on them fell off.

They had the new version of the red mittens and I got a pair of those too.  Again with my points!  I'm going to give them to my sister for Christmas.  I have enough Petro Canada points that I could get everyone in my family a pair of these mitts.  But I'm not going to.

But I will get myself a pair!

Akira redux

A few weeks back I did a post about Akira and the new 25th anniversary Blu-ray release.  I made a fancy animated gif for it and I actually made a second gif that I didn't get around to using until now!  It's from the same sequence which I why I didn't use it the first time.  I should've made another gif from later on in the movie when the tanks are attacking Tetsuo or got one of Kaneda firing the laser.  Maybe for the 30th anniversary...

Good to go

So far I've bought a new jacket (which was on sale),

a new pair of ski pants (not on sale),

new pair of ski boots (on sale yes!),

and finally a new (well used, but new to me) pair of skis.

Now I'm all set to go skiing two maybe three times this year!

Chanukkah? Hanukkah?

It's time to get a little festive.  Last year I bought a "holiday" movie that I was going to watch and write about here on the blog.  I didn't get around to it and it's been sitting in various locations on the living room floor ever since.  I finally got around to watching it the other night.

I'm not sure why I didn't do it last year because now it's like I'm not going to do a big write up or anything about the movie.  Instead I'll just tell you that I watched Adam Sandler's Eight Crazy Nights, the all time great Chanukkah/Christmas/Holiday movie.  And you know it's great because there is a ton of product placements, swearing and poop and fart jokes!  For some reason I want to remember Cam and Willie saw this in the theater?  I don't know for sure, but I do know...

HAPPY HOLIDAYS SH#THEADS!!

More arts

We are now at part three of various art stuff from my portfolio.  Please enjoy.

A Hulk print from artist Scott Hepburn that I picked up at the Calgary Comic Expo.  He must've thought I was a complete weirdo.  The bottom of the print is signed and numbered in pencil, but it's very faint.  I asked him if he could sign it again and he reluctantly did if only to get rid of me.

A Spider-Man and Mary Jane print by Craig Rousseau that I got at the Calgary Red & White show.  He was an artist on Marvel's Spider-Man Loves Mary Jane.

Craig Rousseau Captain America sketch.

A Batman sketch from artist Norm Breyfogle, I also got this at a Red & White show.

A Wolverine sketch from artist Jacob Chabot from the Calgary Comic Expo.  He has some Marvel stuff, but also his own comic, The Mighty Skullboy Army.

I bought this Spider-Man sketch from Jacob Chabot that was in his art book.   I think he was happy I bought it because he's had it for three years.   Not sure why anyone wouldn't want to buy it, but that's cool I got a deal on it.

Another Chris Giarusso sketch to add to my collection.  I say another because I also have my Punisher sketch that I got him to do when he was offering commissions from this website.

A Die Hard print that I bought online from Society 6.

I bought this Ewoks animation cell on eBay.  It doesn't have the background, but the rough pencils are also included.  The girly ewok has a derpy look on her face.

I

Once again I'll end it with a music poster, this time a Superfriendz tour poster from 1996.  Fun fact, Murderecords just released a remastered double LP of Resuce Us From Boredom.  It has bonus tracks and is limited to just 500 copies, so be sure to go buy me one before it's too late!
