Questionable quality

If you follow my Instagram then you know I was in Chinatown the other day picking up goodies like candy and bootleg movies!

I got this Blu-ray copy of My Lucky Stars, an 80's Jackie Chan movie.  Well it's known as a Jackie Chan movie, but he's only in it at the start and at the end for the big fight.  That's good enough for me.  I probably already have this tucked away somewhere, but it's probably easier to just buy another copy than try to find it again.

This is a Korean movie called Assassination and I just watched it tonight.  I liked it!

Phantom is an Indian flick that I've had on my radar for a while now.  I actually found a few other Bollywood movies in the sale bin that I wanted to watch, so hopefully they'll still be there next time I go back.

A bootleg Disney movie?!  While I actually have the legit Disney Blu-ray for Big Hero 6, I bought this 3D version because for some reason Disney released it on 3D everywhere else in the world except North America.  Doesn't make sense to me.

Bootleg Castle DVDs!  I bought this Castle Season 5 three disc set for $9 and I thought it was a pretty good deal.  It didn't turn out to be that good of a deal as I thought it was the complete season 5, but how can they fit an entire season on three discs?  Unlike what the packaging says its not Blu-ray, it's DVD and there is only half a season on the three discs, but I guess that's what I get for buying bootlegs.  When I learn?  Never probably...

I watched the first couple episodes and while the picture quality is pretty good, anamorphic widescreen and clear, it's just a rip from the CTV broadcast!  The start of the episodes have the rating logo and there is the CTV watermark in the bottom corner.

X'd!!

Did anyone watch the X-Files?!  If not, why not??  The first episode of season 10 aired Sunday night and the second episode aired Monday.  The remaining episodes will every Monday night.  I like the new X-Files so far, the first episode was aliens and crazy conspiracy stuff which kinda opens up stuff.  The new season is only a mere 6 episodes, so I'm not sure how they can resolve much after the first episode.  It doesn't help much that the second episode is a kinda of stand alone episode too.  Maybe they will just set up a bunch of storyline threads and hope it's popular enough to bring back as another mini series.

Today I went to HMV to look for a movie, and while I wasn't sure what movie I wanted I knew I could find something if I tried.  I didn't have to try very hard because instead of buying one movie I ended up buying three.  I almost got the Ghoulies/Ghoulies II double feature, but got some old school anime instead.  Next time I'll definitely get Ghoulies.

Blu-rays for Venus Wars and Ninja Scroll!  Venus Wars is cool, so I wasted no time and watched it tonight.  It's widescreen, has Japanese audio with English subs and the old school English dub you all remember from the VHS days.  No special features except some old trailer taken from the old CPM DVD which looks pretty crappy.

If you haven't seen Ninja Scroll it's crazy and violent and gory and ninjas.  That's pretty much all you need.  Can't believe it was only $12.99!

I also got the 3 disc DVD Armitage set.  It contains all 4 OVAs plus the two movies, Polymatrix and Dual Matrix, for 317 minutes of  sci-fi cyberpunk goodness.   That sounds like a lot and while it is, there is some overlap.  The 4 OVAs were later re-cut into the movie Polymatrix for release in North America.  I've seen the two movies, but it will be good to see the original OVAs because they did cut out about 17 minutes when editing Polymatrix,

Well see ya, I got movies to watch.

This is the end

Finally, we made it the the 24th, the final day in the Lego City advent calendar.  I'll admit this turned out to be a real chore.  I just used it as an excuse for posts instead actually coming with something of my own.  Now that's done, I'll be back to posting fun and interesting topics!  Haha, just kidding.

I told you it was Santa!  Now you guys all owe me five bucks!

He even came with an extra beard.

Here is a group shot of all 24 days of Lego kits.  I didn't want to waste my time setting them up or anything,  Now that it's all done I can toss them in a bag and pack away in box in the basement.

Blast off!

We are getting close with the 22nd and 23rd days of the City Lego advent calendar.

The kit for the 22nd looks booster rockets.

And for the 23rd we have a space shuttle!

I just have this feeling that the last kit tomorrow will be Santa.  I've got a hunch.

Three way

It seems like the more we get into the Lego City advent, the lazier I get at doing it.  Next year it's definitely the Star Wars calendar or nothing.  Luckily, we are almost done with this year's, so I just gotta grind it out a few more days. Until then here are the past few days of kits from the City calendar.

The 19th is a snowman which looks a bit creepy with no face.  They could have easily gave him a face, not sure why they didn't.

The 20th is girl with a cell phone and an ice cream cone.  She is the second mini figure in the calendar to come with a cell phone.  Also, who eats ice creams cones in the winter?

Of course she came with extra accessories, so now she can have two phone or two ice cream cones.

The 21st is a fire with some marshmallows!  Okay, it's simple, but it's still pretty cool.

Let's be friends!

Hello this is doge.

Today's kit for the 18th is the dog mini figure...

The assembly on the mini figures is pretty easy, put the head on the torso, the torso on the legs and you are done.  Sometimes it gets a little complicated if there is a hat, but nothing I can't handle.  The assembly on the dog kit consisted of putting the bone in the bowl.  Luckily I got an extra bone, so it was a little more extra work putting it together.   Still it took longer for me to open the damn baggie than to set it up.

I'm hoping tomorrow's kit is a more complicated.  But not too complicated.

16/17

Here we go with day 16 and 17 of the Lego City Advent Calendar...

Day 16 is policeman mini figure.  He comes with a pair of handcuffs and a megaphone?  I'm going to pretend that's a gun, not a megaphone.  He also came with an extra pair of handcuffs and another megaphone, er I mean gun.

Day 17 was the cop's ride, a snowmobile!  I wonder if Kristian has one of those?  The snowmobile was the first kit to not have an extra piece.

Choo-choo

I keep falling behind on these Lego posts as today is the 16th and I'm just getting around to posting the 14th and 15th days.  I was "busy" last night watching Chopping Mall, so that's why I didn't get around to it then.  I was going to do it earlier today, but Cody and I went out to watch Star Wars: The Force Awakens again.  I then watched Open Season tonight and almost didn't do it again, but felt guilty about not doing it, so here it is finally.

Day 14 is train "engine"...

...while day 15 is the train car.

These two kits at least make something interesting, not something boring like a lamp post.  I'm hoping tomorrow is the dog from the picture on the box.

That can't be good....

12/13

Here is today's post with yesterday's and today's kit from the Lego City advent calendar!

Day 12 are some presents!  You can tell they aren't from me because I put all my gifts in gift bags.  Wrapping is a hassle and with a gift bag you just drop it in the bag and tape the top and you're done.

Day 13 is a mini figure of some no good criminal dude.  He comes with a backpack full of stolen cash and a blood stained crowbar he uses to beat his victims to death before robbing them.  Stay classy Lego.

If that wasn't bad enough he comes with extra accessories that allow him to dual wield his toque AND crowbar.

TFA

So no Lego tonight, but not because I forgot or because I'm lazy (even though I am), it's because STAR WARS.   I'm not sure if you guys follow the internet or social media, but this guy is now officially the biggest bad ass of the Star Wars movies.

Sorry Boba Fett, the internet has spoken.  Like Boba Fett he doesn't say much and also like Fett he goes out like a punk.  The internet dubbed him TR-8R, but turns out he actually has a proper designation, you read about him here.  Yes, he is just a stormtrooper, but unlike most other stormtroopers he actually does something other than just get shot.  Okay yes, he still gets shot, but it's unclear if it was a kill shot.  The way the internet loves this guy I'm sure they can bring him back for a small scene in the next movie.  Maybe he'll get two words of dialogue this time.

Turn it up to 11

I was going to be lazy and skip today's Lego City kit, but I didn't want to waste that post title.

It's a clock with more green stuff on it and it's actually past 11!!!  Damn...

8/9/10

If you been anxiously awaiting to see what awesome kits came out of the Lego City advent calendar get ready because it's showtime!

On the 8th I got this thing.  It looks like a lamp post, but I'm not sure what the green thing on it is supposed to be.  Unless it is some festive Christmas foilage?

It looks way better without the green thing.

On the 9th it's a chair!  Right?

A Christmas tree for the 10th.  While putting this together I dropped one of the gold "ornaments" on the floor by my bed and now I can't find it.  At least I got extra pieces, so I still finished it.  Christmas is saved!

LA-Z Rider

No, I didn't forget to do the Lego calendar yesterday and today, I was just lazy.  So tomorrow you'll get three kits in one which is way better anyway.  In the meantime here is the intro couch gag for the new episode of the Simpsons.  My Simpsons viewing has been off and on the past few years mostly because it's not really that funny any more.  Yes, it's still funny occasionally, but can't compare to how it used to be.  Yeah yeah I know, they don't make them like they did in the old days blah blah blah.

There now you don't even have to watch the episode.

Called it

Day seven in the advent calendar is a mini figure!  I had a hunch since there were so many figures on the box, it was just a matter of time before another one popped up.

The mini figure is another kid(non-moveable legs remember?) who comes with a phone accessory and a white thing in hand that I'm guessing is a snow ball?  A snowball in one hand and a phone in the other hand, that's a good way to ruin your phone young man!  Also, put on a jacket if you are outside in the snow!

Extras pieces include a extra phone and snow ball.

5/6

Only five days into the Lego City advent calendar and I'm already slipping.  I did the kit for the 5th and took the picture, but as I turned off my laptop to go to sleep I realized I forgot to post it up.  So a day late is the kit from the 5th as well as the kit from the 6th.

Hey, it's something cool!  The kit from the fifth is an airplane.

Another kit of something that isn't lame.  At first I thought it was bullbozer, but it's actually a toy bulldozer.  It's got a wind up key in the back of it.  I'm predicting it will be a mini figure for tomorrow's kit.

IV

Here is day four's kit in the Lego City advent calendar.

Pretty boring as I'm not sure what it's supposed to be again.  A beverage concession stand?  Even the lame kits in the Star Wars advent calendars were better than this.  I got one left over white roof piece.  Now that I look at the picture I just noticed I screwed up and put it together totally wrong.  The mug is backwards!

Here is liven up this post is a picture of the wall of guns at the dollar store in down town Cranbrook.  There were even more guns that wouldn't fit in the picture.  I went there with Avery and stocked up on weaponry.  You can actually get caps at this place too!  Try and guess which gun I bought.  I showed some self restraint and only bought one.

Thr33

I opened the door for "3" today and I'm not ever sure what I got.

It's a weird thing with a basket on one end that holds a pair of skates and what looks to be a pie on the other end??  I can see the clear pieces supposed to be ice since there are ice skates, but the pie doesn't really fit in with ice skating.  I don't get it.

I got one extra skate blade.  I would rather have gotten an extra pie.
