Summer time

Just a quick post regarding my upcoming summer vacation times.  At work we were short staffed forever, but finally hired three people to help out.  We hired someone to work Monday to Friday mornings, someone to work nights and a third person to work Friday to Monday anytime.  Then the guy who works nights decided to quit and the person to work Friday to Monday seems like she can't ever work due to prior commitments, so it's like we really only hired like half a person for a few mornings a week.  I'm still taking time off though!

I had originally wanted to take three separate weeks off, but I cut that back to two since we don't have enough people to work.  I'll only be taking two different weeks off this summer, in July I'm off the 9th to the 15th and in August I'm off the 16th to the 25th.  The July one is just a week away!  I haven't actually taken more than a couple days off since the end of last September.  The time in August might get changed a bit, but just moved forward a couple days.

I will be in Cranbrook, of course, and Kootenay Lake too.  Not sure if anyone else will be around.  I know Cam won't, and I had hoped to go to Kelowna or something on one of original three weeks off.  Maybe if we can hire someone who actually wants to work, I can take some time off in the fall.  Cam and Mike, are your parents going to in Cranbrook the 9th to the 15th?  I got crap to drop off there.  Also, I hear I have stuff to pick up there.  If not, I guess I'll have to hang out with Willie.  Maybe we can film a dumb new movie.

Do over

When I did up the picture for the Star Wars "army" guys the other day I was a little disappointed with how the Stormtrooper picture turned out, so I decided to give in another try.  It's not great, but slightly better than my first try.  What do you guys think?  Any suggestions to make it look better?

Plastic guys

Remember back in the day those little plastic green army dudes?  They were in different poses with different guns, but my favourite was the rocket launcher guy.  I'm pretty sure I still have my army guys back in Cranbrook in an old milk bag.  I haven't really looked for them in stores in about say 30 years or so, but they are back now in Star Wars form as Star Wars Command figure.

I got an Empire pack with two Stormtroopers, two crouched Stormtroopers, two Tie Fighter pilots, two Imperial Guards and a exclusive Emperor Palpatine.  Looks like every pack comes with a 9th exclusive figure.  I'm not if the figure itself exclusive or it's a special paint/coloured version of an existing figure.

You can get the smaller sets and larger "assault" packs which come with vehicles.  I don't like how they mix the classic character with new characters from Star Wars Rebels.  That's why I picked the pack I did because it was all the original guys.  Plus an Emperor figure with blue hands is pretty cool.

I think he got frostbite on his hands.

It's a screen capture from A New Hope!  I like how the one guy is crouched to help get a more accurate shot.  I doesn't help.

I think these guys are pretty cool and would look nice on your desk or shelf next to your Hot Wheels die cast vehicles.  I bought my pack on sale and just like the Hot Wheels I'd like to get some more in the future, but I'll wait till they are on sale again.

Will Ferrell is a hilarious(ly bad) baseball player.

Not quite free

Today's "free" cereal offer comes from Kellogg's Special K as a cereal & milk to go cup.  It's actually pretty cool except I put the word free in quotations marks because while the to go cup is free, you still have to pay the shipping on it.

At least the cup only require one PIN code and not multiples ones.  Though I can see why they are charging $3.00 for shipping as the cup is pretty large.  I probably won't get a cup due to the fact that I just don't want to pay the shipping, even if that $3 shipping is actually pretty cheap considering Canada Post mailing fees lately.  If I ever find $3 on the ground somewhere I'll use it for the cup which will then sit in the cupboard unused.  Money well spent!

Pew pew

Okay, now the multiplayer game play trailer for Battlefront is out.  It's set on Hoth, but I didn't even see any tauntauns, so hopefully Dice fixes that before release date.  Also sucks that it's only 40 player battles, BF4 was 64!

Kevin Smith and Star Wars

Don't worry this doesn't have anything to do with Kevin Smith doing something with the Star Wars franchise I'm just cramming two small things into one blog post and one has to do with Kevin Smith and the other, Star Wars.

First up, yesterday I came home from work and was bored, so I was looking on Instagram on my phone and in the "Search" menu I was going through the random images and came across one with Kevin Smith.  I clicked on it and then went to browse his feed and apparently he's planning on doing Mallrats 2 aka Mallbrats.  He's even lined all the actors from the first film to return with the exception of Affleck.  Not sure how I feel about this, of course I'll see when it comes out.  As long as Brodie is still ranting about that kid on the escalator I'll be good.

After that I went downstairs and turned on the TV and on Comedy they were showing Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back.  Not sure why this was on there as every time Jay opened his mouth half his dialogue was removed.  Unless someone at the network thought it was funny just for that reason alone.

STAR WARS!!  E3 is currently under way and they released a new trailer for Star Wars: Battlefront.  Unlike the first trailer, this one actually has gameplay footage in it...PS4 footage.  Check it out below.

It's supposed to be a mainly multiplayer game with no actual campaign to it, but there are solo/co-op missions which is what was shown in the trailer.  I like how the player runs around dropping Stormtroopers while shooting one handed and the Stormtroopers can't hit nothing.  Classic Star Wars, I bet even Cam is excited for this.

BFFs

Dollarama isn't just home to cheap Pepsi and candy, they also have Shoulder Trolls.  They are your shoulder riding pals!

The magic coin holds them in place, so you can take on the go for loads of fun.  There isn't anything magic about it.  Just put the "coin" on the inside of your shirt and your troll pal sticks to it with the "magic" of magnetism.

We're totally having fun!

He's got the swirly lines in his eyes like he's been hit on the head with a cartoon mallet or he is under the influence of something.

This guy...

...tells the best jokes!!

Seriously though, if you can't walk into Dollarama and have the urge to buy a stupid junky toy then you have no soul.  Most of the time we don't give into these impulses, but on occasion we do and go home with a Shoulder Troll.  Other times it might be a wind-up robot or wind-up zombie, but that is a post for another day.

1L deal!

If you haven't been to Dollarama lately, you should check it out because in addition to cheap candy they got cheap pop to go along with it.  I'm not talking about cheap crap like RC Cola or some weird brand, but Pepsi.

Dollarama has Pepsi and Diet Pepsi 1L bottles for only 77 cents each, and even with deposit and tax that is less than a buck.  It wasn't even that cheap back in the Barney's era!  I'm pretty sure a 150ml Pepsi would cost you over $2.00 at 7-11 now.  I'm pretty sure Pepsi is now cheaper than water.

Now if they would only carry some decent brands of chips.

Keepin' it real

We had some nice weather here in Calgary today, so I figured might as well get out of the house, into the sunlight(hiss!) and do something.  Cody and I went down to Chinatown today and while I got a few things, a few stores were closed and that was a bit of a disappointment.

The toy store I wanted to go to was closed.  The bakery Jing Jing was closed, so no donuts on a skewer.  And on our way out we went to stop at the Vietnamese sub place, but the line was huge.  I looked in on it earlier and there was no one there, then like twenty minutes later like everyone showed up.  Dammit!

I went to the Dragon City Mall and once I walked in I was all worried because the movie place I usually go to was gone!  Luckily it had only moved a few stores over.  I bought three movies!

When my mom went to Taiwan she had a layover in Hong Kong where she got me the Blu-ray for the Japanese movie Ruroni Kenshin based on the manga/anime.  This is Ruroni Kenshin: Kyoto Inferno, the second movie in the trilogy.  As I said the movie place just moved, so they hadn't unpacked everything yet and the guy couldn't find the third movie, The Legend Ends.  Looks like I'll be going back sometime soon.

I had been looking for a copy of Protector 2/Tom Yum Goong 2 for a while.  It was released in North America quite a while ago, but seems pretty hard to find.  I kept hoping to find it at Cash Converters, but no such luck.  It was released in 3D, but only the US got the 3D version and it goes for WAY too much on eBay.

I love the case it came in too.  I was all worried I bought a bootleg, but it's says "Real Blu-ray Disc" on on the case, so it must be legit.

I was thinking about getting this when it actually is released tomorrow, but why wait and why pay a lot more than I have to?

Cody was all shocked that movie places like that actually exist and haven't been shut down yet.  I'm glad there are there, but usually I just buy stuff I can't find over here.  Ignore that Kingsman Blu-ray above.  I just think they are playing with fire selling bootleg Hollywood movies.  Maybe no one cares if they sold pirated DVDs of Asian movies, but selling bootleg copies of American Sniper, Disney flicks and Hollywood blockbusters is asking for trouble.

They movie place actually moved right next the snack store, so I made sure to stock up on some Hi-Chew and similar candies.  They are sort of like Starburst, little individually wrapped chewy candies.  This is actually how I eat most of my fruit.

That was pretty much the Chinatown trip as a bit a let down as we didn't get to hit up everything we wanted to, but at least I got out of the house.

Beep boop

I definitely won't be using the ghetto blaster phone case any more as I got a cool new battery cover for my phone.  I know it's not a case, but I don't want it covered up.  I gotta show off my R2-D2 love!

It's also from China and again took forever to get here. When I took it out of the packaging I was almost not going to put it on my phone because it felt so cheap and flimsy.  Then I took the original back of my phone and it felt just as cheap and flimsy,  It felt better once I put it on.

You can't see in the picture but the gray squares and the blue parts are slightly raised, so it gives the back some texture and it's not just all smooth.  Again, I would've gone with a kitten one if I could've found one, but R2 will do until I do.

Boomin' system

I got a new phone case in the mail yesterday.  I ordered it back when I first got my new phone, but it came from China, so it took a while.  I probably won't even keep using it as I've gotten used to not having a case on my phone.  The case just makes my phone heavier and bulkier.  Also, I couldn't find a kitten one I liked.
